Before getting into this trip, i would never have thought of going to be at the World Expro, which it seemed nothing really matters to me as a person, I never thought of thinking myself as an unit of representing Hong Kong. I never would have seen where I am standing as a Hong Kong person comparing myself/my home city to China (or even the world).
I thought to myself, this really is a great opportunity for me to step outside my comfort zone, view China, view the world, may be some how in the future I can actually be helping Hong Kong to develop. This is hopefully going to be a great trip for me to view, or even a first time look deep inside/outside the world.
Excited and scared at the same time really~~

It’s the second day of the trip and so far it has been an exciting start. So much has happened, grasping every single minute of the day. We’ve travelled far distances in the city, as well in our imaginations. There so much to share but just to summarize what’s been running through my mind, I have here the 4Cs.
Conversations
Enjoyed a series of sharing from professionals in the creative field. What actually happens in a creative business from a small gallery to one of a commune or a district. I also particularly enjoyed the conversations amongst trip-mates and the ongoing topics of how a creative effort could work in business and how it can translate into an industry. We question what roles we can take in the field and how our expertise can contribute.
BIG City
Shanghai is very BIG. The city has a quality of grandeur and massive. All built structures are large and overwhelming. People move in large masses. Another illustration was given by a gallery curator of how effectively he can produce artwork with the large amount of available resources in manpower, material and space, here in China. This is a phenonmenon happening only here in the world.
Creativity
Questioning HK’s effort for achieving a successful creative industry model. Is there a valid reference or case study from Shanghai that we can apply to HK? Or even to its bare essential idea, does a creative act need a reference for its validity and existence.
Companions.
Young, full of spirit and carefree is how I would describe the people in our trip. Yet, they all come from different fields of creativity. It’s nice to be in an environment where all are minds connect and inspire. Passion is contagious.
More to share later…the Chinese Creative Industries Forum is on tomorrow. Many Creative professionals will join in and share what’s on their mind and agenda…can’t wait to hear what they have to say. Better get to sleep. It’s another long day tomorrow.

Creative ecologies / Shanghai
